Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Sophie Ellis-Bextor is one of the most successful British pop artists to emerge in the 2000s, known for her glossy disco- and ’80s-influenced sound. She first gained attention as the lead singer of Brit-pop band theaudience before launching a solo career with the 2000 chart-topping hit “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love).” Her debut album Read My Lips (2001), featuring the smash “Murder on the Dancefloor,” reached number two on the U.K. Albums Chart and cemented her status as a pop star.
In 2023, “Murder on the Dancefloor” experienced a major global resurgence after featuring in the film Saltburn, propelling the track back into the charts and earning Ellis-Bextor her first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100.
