Y Not Festival, sure – it’s about bands bands bands a few DJs, rappers and singer-songwriters and then some more bands. We’ve got everything from new, to legendary to hot right now but did you know Y Not is so much more than just the music.
Aside from the bands, did you know you could do all this:
Sunday at 12 noon – Y Not hosts its annual Paint Fight. We provide the paint, you just need to show up. We start by the Y Not sign ins Arena 1 and from there you can throw multi-coloured powder paint at your best friends or worst enemies. Be warned: hard to wash off. You might be a multi-coloured smurf for the rest of the day.
Yep, we boast our own cinema. Open Friday – Sunday, you can pop in and chill out to some of the greatest films going. This year we’re screening everything from Shrek, School of Rock to Bohemian Rhapsody. So you can get your film fix, whatever it may be. The cinema is FREE and open to all.
I guess it’s kind of music. Each afternoon it pops off with non-stop 80s jams, making you feel exactly like you’re at your great aunts 3rd wedding. No, we don’t do actual weddings here.
Encouraged but not compulsory – Y Not LOVES fancy dress. Each year, you can vote for the theme.
This year’s theme has been voted by you as WILDLIFE.
You’re free to get dressed up all weekend long – but this year fancy dress day is SATURDAY! Meet in Flamingo Jacks for 2pm – we’ll be giving away free tickets to 2019 for the best dressed.
This finishes up just in time for the Gold City PARADE happening just outside.
No festival is complete without DRAG QUEENS. Make sure you get to Flamingo Jacks to experience the beauty that is Mariah and Friendz. Their amazing drag performance will have you singing, dancing and if you’re like me… crying at the sheer talent. I JUST REALLY LOVE DRAG QUEENS OK.
I guess it’s musical… but it’s also silent. Comprende? Every night at Y Not, The Giant Squid turns into the famous Silent Disco. Running into the early hours, you can choose from 2 top dawg DJs blasting all your favourite tunes. From Oasis (obv) to Fleetwood Mac. It’s the place to be.
